I was attacked with acid by my stalker, he was a complete stranger and now I spend my life with his scars.
Who knew that Diwali, a festival of lights, would be the fateful day when Mohini would be pushed into an abyss of pain? Mohini was stalked by a man from her streets. Aware of her rights, she filed a police complaint assuming it would quit the regular harassment. After filing the complaint, she left for Jaipur to visit her relatives and started working there. A few months passed uneventfully. She assumed he had understood and decided to leave her alone. She thought that they would never cross paths again, but fate had other plans. Mohini visited her family to celebrate Diwali together. They decided to run errands and finish shopping in an auto-rickshaw. It was then as if out of her worst nightmares, the same guy who stalked her sprang in front of her and stopped the rickshaw, and threw 3 bottles of acid at Mohini. Her father was sitting next to her, he and the rickshaw driver also got acid burns. She was admitted to the hospital for her treatment. Affording medical treatments for her and her father was not possible as her father was the only earning source in the family. They had to mortgage their property to look after the medical expenses of their treatments. She got 58% of burn injuries due to the acid attack. The pain was unbearable, she could feel her face and body melting down. Seeing herself and her father in this situation made her feel very helpless. Somehow, they managed the expenses of the treatment and later got discharged from the hospital. The accused was sentenced to jail for 5 years. After this incident, Mohini was afraid to step out and decided to be confined to her home. After a few years of violent nightmares and struggling with the pain & trauma she decided to look for a job. She started working again. Like all scars irrespective of their depth, time slowly heals them all. Eventually, she met her now husband, who over the period spent together as friends started liking her and asked her hand for marriage. Mohini, however, refused as she believed that no family would ever accept her with a disfigured face and body. But he was always sure that they both would have a happy married life. After a lot of convincing, she gave in and they both got married. She says that her husband is her biggest motivation who has helped her a lot to come out from the horrifying incident. Mohini is now blessed with a girl and a boy. Though things are still not easy, she has found the courage to face each day as it comes.
