My brother in-law wanted to teach my family an unforgettable lesson, and I, a young girl, was obviously the most befitting pawn for his vengeful motives.
Reshma was attacked with acid in 2014 by her sister's husband. Her brother-in-law was very abusive towards her sister. He used to verbally and physically assault her elder sister. Reshma's father decided to bring her daughter back to his home and fight for the custody of their grandson. After her sister's husband came to know about the custody case, he thought of teaching her family a lesson through Reshma. As Reshma was young and very dear to all, he plotted the heinous crime of acid attack with his other 2 accomplices. On the unfortunate day, when Reshma was on her way home from the examination hall, he arrived on the bike with 2 other culprits and stopped his wife and Reshma midway, he was on the bike with 2 other culprits. They hit Reshma, and she fell down. One of the culprits pulled Reshma by her hair and poured the acid on her face. Reshma's sister was also injured in the attack, she got burns on her back and hands. Reshma has lost vision in one eye, and her face has been disfigured badly. Reshma's father is a taxi driver, and he has to look after the expenses of the custody case of his grandson and criminal case against his son-in-law along with the treatment cost of his two daughters. Reshma has undergone 9 surgeries to date and she may have to undergo a few more surgeries in order to correct her eyelids. Her eyes are so badly damaged that whenever she tries to bend, blood oozes out from her eyes. Reshma recently had an operation for the same. Reshma aspires to study and work in the future. She wants to support her father financially but she is unable to do so because of her health conditions. Despite going through all the pain and difficulties, she has so far come out very strong, but she looks for a supporting hand who can help her achieve her dreams of looking after her family and being of some help to her father. Her brother-in-law has been in jail since 2014 and her struggle is still going on.
