My abusive husband and my uncle attacked me with acid so they could kill me and my dreams without taking my life away.

Rima was married off at a very early age. She was only 13 years old when her mother got her married. Her husband was from Nepal. Rima lost her father when she was 8 years old. She has 3 younger siblings and a mother in the family. Her mother works in a hospital where she earns Rs.6000 per month. There is no other earning source in her family. Due to no financial support, her mother decided to marry her off in childhood. Rima's in-laws were extremely unhappy because they received no dowry during the wedding. Rima's mother was extremely poor, and the sole earner in the family. She was not in a position to fulfill any dowry demands. Her husband and in-laws used to abuse her physically and mentally. At the tender age of 13, Rima was a victim of domestic abuse. The physical and mental torture went on for several years. They also used to forcefully remove her from their house. Rima decided to come back to her mother's house and started living there. She wanted to pursue her studies further. While at her mother's place, she enrolled herself in beauty parlor and sewing courses. When her husband found out, he forced him into her house and beat her brutally. He physically abused Rima until she bled from her eyes and nose. She was 5 months pregnant then. The abuse led to a miscarriage. Since childhood, Rima had witnessed her uncle fighting with her mother for her father’s property. Her mother has filed the case in court against her uncle, who illegally wanted to steal their property. Her uncle was aware that Rima had left her husband’s house and was staying at her mother's place. Her uncle conspired with her husband to carry out a heinous attack on her. On the unfortunate day, Rima went to the fair and exhibition near her village with her friends. After coming home, she noticed the house door was half open. Her uncle, his wife, Rima's husband, and a woman from her neighborhood were in the room. They grabbed Rima, pushed her to the floor, and tied her hands and legs. When she started screaming, they tied a dupatta around her neck. She thought they were about to kill her. Instead, her uncle and husband started pouring acid on her head, which was spilling down to her face and body. The torment led her to faint. Leaving the spot, her husband cut her thumb so that she became unable to write, study, or work. Rima’s neighbor saw her in the pool of blood and informed other villagers. People simply watched. Not one came to help her. The neighbors informed her mother at work when the attack happened. The information was then sent to a sarpanch and gram panchayat head. They asked a few people to help Rima and shift her to the hospital. She was attacked at around 6 pm and was brought to the hospital at 2 am. None of the doctors were ready to give her the treatment or first aid. Her mother begged at the feet of the doctor and pleaded with him to save her daughter’s life. Rima has lost her vision in one eye, and both her ears have melted due to the acid burns. Her nose, face, neck, and shoulders are also affected. Her mother found out in the hospital that her uncle had bribed the doctor with money and asked him to kill Rima, to stop her from giving a statement to the police. The doctor stopped his treatment and asked her mother to take her away from the hospital. Unyielding, her mother refused to do so. She went to a woman who was politically inclined, asking her to help with the daughter's treatment. She wrote a letter to the hospital and demanded to not discharge Rima and continue her treatment. Later Rima was transferred to Safdarjung Hospital. When they reached the hospital at midnight, no officials were ready to admit her. They slept on the road that night to get admission the next day. When the doctor came in the morning and checked her, she was admitted to the hospital.
