Choudhary Ali Zia Kabir, now serving as the Principal Advisor at Brave Souls Foundation, brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his role. Having transitioned from the position of Director of Law, Kabir has been an integral part of the organisation since its inception, dedicating himself to the pursuit of justice and rehabilitation for survivors of acid attacks and gender-based violence.In his new capacity, Kabir provides strategic guidance and advisory support to the foundation, leveraging his extensive legal background and expertise. He oversees critical legal matters, including the representation of survivors and the organisation itself, while also supervising legal staff across all of Brave Souls Foundation's offices in India. With over a decade of experience working with various human rights organisations, Kabir has honed his skills in advocating for the rights of individuals and communities. His focus remains steadfast on pursuing justice through legal avenues, specialising in presenting compelling legal arguments concerning human and constitutional rights before tribunals and courts of law, including the esteemed Supreme Court of India. Throughout his career, Kabir has led numerous impactful cases spanning a diverse range of issues, from modern slavery and refugee rights to addressing acid attacks, sexual harassment, women's justice, child abuse, criminal justice, Dalit discrimination, disability rights, labor rights, healthcare access, prisoner rights, slum dwellers' rights, homelessness, street vendors' rights, and waste management workers' rights. Prior to assuming his role at Brave Souls Foundation, Kabir served as the Director (Right to Housing) at the Human Rights Law Network (HRLN), where he made significant contributions to advancing the right to housing in India. He is also an accomplished author, having penned several reports, opinion pieces, and a Compendium on the Right to Housing in India (ISBN 978-81-953963-6-8). Kabir holds an honours degree in law from India and a master’s degree in human rights and conflict resolution from SOAS University of London. His commitment to justice and his invaluable expertise make him an indispensable asset to Brave Souls Foundation in its mission to create a safer and more inclusive society for all.
